Best Poker Software for Tournament Players

Tournament poker brings a mathematical wrinkle that cash games do not: your chips are worth different amounts depending on the prize structure and who is still in the game. Mastering that wrinkle is the Independent Chip Model (ICM), and it is where tournament software earns its keep.

This guide covers the tools that matter to tournament players: dedicated ICM calculators, push/fold study, post-game tracking, and GTO strategy work for the endgame. It applies to Multi-Table Tournaments (MTTs — large events with many tables), Sit & Go (SNG) formats (smaller, fixed-player events that start as soon as they fill), and Spin & Go games (fast, small-field variations with a variable prize multiplier).

Everything here is based on official product information and published third-party sources, verified as of 18 October 2026. No hands-on testing was performed.

What tournament software actually does

Most players understand equity: the mathematical chance your hand wins the pot. In a tournament, winning that pot does not always mean winning an equal slice of money. ICM is the model that converts chip stacks into real-money value given the payout structure, and it changes the correct answer to questions that are trivial in cash games.

Two moments dominate tournament decision-making:

  • The bubble — the stage where players are eliminated without being paid. ICM says you should generally play tighter around it, because losing a stack now has a different cost than later.
  • Short-stack push/fold — when your stack is small enough that most decisions reduce to “all in or fold”. ICM-based push/fold ranges tell you which hands belong in which pile for your exact position and stack.

The software categories below serve those moments: calculators that price the spot, trainers that drill the decisions, trackers that find where your results are leaking, and solvers that build the underlying strategy.

The short answer

ICM calculators and push/fold tools

ICMIZER 3

The dedicated tournament ICM tool, on Windows and Mac, covering SNG, SNGMTT, MTT and Spin & Go formats. Its free plan is genuinely usable — one full calculation per day, all basic functions, free forever — which makes it the standard way to learn ICM at no cost.

  • Basic — $99.99/year (monthly and quarterly options exist): ICMIZER with ICM(FGS) calculations, Nash equilibrium push/fold strategies with mixed strategies, automatic hand analysis, the SNG Coach and the Replayer. Addons are not included.
  • PRO — $179.99/year: everything in Basic plus the addons: ICMIZER Nitro (fast cloud calculations, $179.88/year) and SNG Coach Mobile (from $40/year). The PRO SNG Coach includes 120 daily desktop questions (described by the company as up to two hours of training) plus 5 daily mobile questions.
  • 100% money-back guarantee during the first month (monthly subscriptions excluded).

One honest footnote: ICMIZER is study software only — the company states it does not offer real-money gambling, accept wagers, or affiliate with operators. Use it off the table, like everything on this list.

HoldemResources ICM Calculator

A free web tool using the classic Malmuth-Harville ICM formula, supporting up to 20 players and prizes, with a separate larger-field MTT calculator. It answers “what is this stack worth given the payouts?” — not “what is the balanced push/fold range?” (that is ICMIZER’s territory).

MTTDB ICM Calculator

Another free browser ICM tool with a clean interface — the no-install option for a quick chip-value check between sessions.

Trackers with tournament features

PokerTracker 4

Tracks MTTs and SNGs on Windows and macOS, and — uniquely among the big trackers — includes ICM and equity calculators in every edition at no extra cost. One-time licences from $64.99 to $159.99. The reports let you slice results by event and stage, which is where tournament leaks (bubble play, final-table variance) become visible. Full review.

DriveHUD 3

ICM tools in every plan, plus its built-in GTO solver and trainer. Core is $59.99 for the first year (buy-ins of $50 and under), renewing at $19.99/year; Ultimate is $119.99 first year, renewing $39.99/year. Windows; the official FAQ has Mac users running it via Parallels or Boot Camp. Full review.

Hand2Note

The option for players who sit in events across platforms, including room mobile apps (which it tracks). Learner is $15.99/month paid yearly (200,000-hand database cap, $20+$2 tournament buy-in cap, no custom report filters); Pro is $39/month paid yearly with no restrictions. Native Windows and macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel). Full review.

GTO strategy study for tournaments

Tournament GTO study has two parts: the standard cash-game-style range work, and the endgame-specific material — ICM final tables (ICM FTs) and Single Raised Pots (SRPs).

GTO Wizard

The web-based platform whose study scope explicitly includes ICM FTs as well as SRPs, with a pre-solved library, trainer and hand-history analysis. Tiers run $49–$279 per month (monthly billing) or $39–$229 per month (annual), with a free tier offering a small daily hand allowance (reported around 10 hands/day). Runs in a browser on any OS; free iPhone app (PokerArena). Full review.

PokerSnowie

An AI coach rather than a solver: training with live feedback, hand import/analysis and preflop range work — the preflop game that underpins tournament play. $29.90/month or $199.90/year (44% first-purchase discount), Windows, plus a Preflop Advisor PRO app for iPhone. Full review.

Simple GTO Trainer

Drill-based training from pre-built scenarios or your own imported solution files, with instant GTO feedback. Windows; period licence (a 2026 third-party listing shows $199 for twelve months — confirm on the official site); free trial available. Full review.

Building a tournament study routine

Owning the tools is not the point; applying them to your actual results is.

Before an event. Fifteen minutes: review the ranges and spots from your last session. If a bubble decision still nags, price it with a free HoldemResources check or ICMIZER’s daily free calculation — and note the difference between what you did and what the maths says.

After your sessions. Open the tracker. Do not review every hand — go to the endgame. Your performance in the bubble zone and short-stack ranges is where tournament results are made. Pick the three hands where your ICM instinct was weakest and work them properly.

Twice a week, pure drilling. Use the SNG Coach (ICMIZER), the GTO Wizard trainer or Simple GTO Trainer for dedicated push/fold and range work. Short, regular, controlled reps are what convert a calculation you understand once into a decision you make under pressure.

FAQs

What is the difference between equity and ICM? Equity is your chance to win the pot right now. ICM is the real-money value of your entire stack given the payouts and the field. Near the bubble they can point in opposite directions — that gap is exactly what tournament endgame play is about.

Can I learn ICM for free? Yes — ICMIZER 3’s free daily calculation plus the HoldemResources and MTTDB web calculators cover the core concepts. The paid plans buy volume (unlimited calculations), coaching questions and cloud speed.

What is a push/fold range? The set of hands you go all-in with (and the set you fold) when your stack is short enough that most decisions are all-in-or-fold — calculated from ICM given your position and the payout structure.

Do any of these tools work on mobile? For study, yes: GTO Wizard’s PokerArena app (free, iPhone), PokerSnowie’s Preflop Advisor PRO (iPhone) and ICMIZER’s SNG Coach Mobile addon (PRO) all train on a phone. The trackers themselves are desktop products (Hand2Note, though, records hands played on room mobile apps).

Is using ICM calculators while playing allowed? No — any software informing your decisions during a live hand is Real-Time Assistance, banned at major rooms. These are between-sessions study tools; check your room’s policy for its exact rules.

How often should I study GTO as a tournament player? Consistently and briefly: short regular drilling sessions beat occasional marathons. Start with push/fold and the bubble, then widen out.
