How We Review Poker Software: Our Methodology

Poker Score reviews poker software for players in the UK and elsewhere. This page explains how we choose products, how we research them, and what our reviews do and do not claim.

How we choose what to review

We cover software where players genuinely need guidance: poker solvers, trackers and HUDs, equity calculators, ICM and tournament tools, and GTO training software. A product earns a review when it is available to players, it solves a real study problem, and covering it helps a reader make a purchase decision. We do not publish reviews of discontinued software as if it were current, and we do not create near-identical articles targeting keyword variants.

How we research

Every review is research-based. We work from:

  • Official sources first — the developer’s own website, product pages, pricing pages, documentation, support FAQs and changelogs. Prices, platform support and licence terms in our articles come from these pages and carry a “last verified” date.
  • Reputable third-party sources — established poker publications and independent reviews, used to corroborate or to fill gaps where a vendor does not publish a figure (for example, a price shown only at checkout).
  • Documented community information — for established products, widely repeated factual details (such as a tool’s long-standing reputation) are presented as community observations, not as our own findings.

Every factual claim in an article falls into one of three buckets: verified against an official source, sourced from a third party (and marked as such), or general poker knowledge. If we cannot verify something, we say so rather than guess.

What we do not do

  • We do not fabricate testing. As of October 2026, our reviews have not involved hands-on testing of the software, and they are labelled accordingly. We do not invent benchmarks, session times, “hours of testing” or personal results.
  • We do not publish star ratings or aggregate scores. We have no documented testing process to score against, so we would not invent one. Reviews explain strengths, limitations and fit instead.
  • We do not accept payment for placement or positive coverage. Being featured on Poker Score costs nothing, and vendors cannot buy a recommendation.
  • We do not date-fake. Where an article is updated with new information, the article says what changed and when it was verified; we do not reset publication dates to make old articles look new.

How recommendations are made

Where products compete for the same job, we compare them on the dimensions that actually differ for buyers: price and licence model, platform support, feature scope, learning curve, and what each product does not do. In “best of” guides we make recommendations by need — for example, by budget, by operating system, or by whether you want training versus raw solving — rather than crowning a single product “best overall” unless the evidence genuinely supports it.

Affiliates

Some links on this site, including certain “visit website” buttons, are affiliate links. If you buy through them, we may earn a commission at no cost to you. Our affiliate disclosure explains this in full. Affiliate relationships never influence what we say in a review, and a product’s price to you is the same whether you click through our link or go directly.

How often we check

  • At publication: every price and platform claim verified against the official source, with the date recorded in the article.
  • Ongoing: we re-check pricing and availability on a regular schedule and after vendor announcements (pricing changes, new versions, product mergers or discontinuations).
  • When you tell us: if something in an article is wrong or outdated, email us at [email protected] and we will correct it.
